    Hello and welcome to the Wireless Without Frontiers Seminar
    
    My name is Malkit Jhitta and I am the Business Development Manager responsible to promoting Oxford Semiconductor in Asia.
    
    Oxford Semiconductor is focused on connectivity solutions that will facilitate the convergence of connectivity in the office as well as the home.

    Oxford Semiconductor was started in 1992, focusing then on custom ASIC solutions
    
    The products now cover 1394 A and B, USB2.0, UARTs, Card Bus, Compact Flash and PCI bridge solutions
    
    Our markets are primarily PC and Consumer with end products such as DV storage, MP3, MP4 Viewer and External storage such as Hard Drives and Optical Drives
    
    Oxford Semiconductor has its Head Office in the UK, with regional offices in Singapore and the USA

    The majority of Oxford Semiconductor’s business is done in Asia – this is primarily because Asia is the Manufacturing Base for the World !

    Oxford Semiconductor have products that cater for PCI to Serial and Parallel connectivity – these components are ideally suited for PC add-on cards and also Industrial control.
    
    Oxford Semiconductor offers solutions for Compact Flash and Card Bus to Serial data for applications such as GPRS and Bluetooth
    
    And Oxford is world leader in 1394 bridge solutions to hard drives and other IDE drives such as DVD and CDRom’s. Oxford was the first to offer a 1394B solution.
    1394B is the new 800 Mbps standard that is now being incorporated in high performance PC’s

    1. Silicon – we use leading edge technologies
    2. Firmware –1394 products
    3. Device Drivers for our PCI/UART products
    4. Reference designs – across all products
    5. Approvals – we help our customers to achieve WHQL approval
    6. Innovation. At our Oxford-based R&D centre we have some 50 hardware and software engineers dedicated to driving forward new products and technologies

    Continuing on the theme of Focus Oxford Embraces and drives new standards. For example:- 1394 – for storage, data streaming, Audio, and Audio/Video applications
    
    We are also involved with Copy Protection working groups within the Entertainment Industry
    
    We have Key relationships with Hardware and Software providers
    
    With Hard Drive Manufacturers and generally with companies like Microsoft as well as OEM/ODM’s and Silicon foundries
    
    This allows Oxford to offer leading Edge Solutions to its customers

    Oxford sees the convergence of different technologies in the future for all users of electronic products.
    
    Thus soon we will see the Home, the Office and mobile communications all sharing central pools of data, allowing greater flexibility and greater ease to access data.

    This slide shows Oxfords Products and Applications. We offer solutions for External PC/Apple storage
    
    For Bluetooth Solutions
    
    In the consumer area we have done reference designs for Hard Drive based MP3 players and Digital Album.
    
    Now we are moving into the Consumer Products market with Imaging solutions, such as hard drive based recording to allow easy editing and playback

    Our Roadmap continuously evolves, this slide shows our current plans to fit in with the products we just discussed in the previous slide.

    This slide and the next slide shows some of the 1394 based products.
    
    We provide Development platforms for our customers who wish to differentiate their products and so add value and as a result command higher margin !
    
    These Development Kits have proven to be a great success

    So far we have talked about product offering in the 1394 interface area.
    
    I would now like to spend a few minutes to tell you about Oxford’s PCI and UART products.
    
    We have been providing these solutions for some 7 to 8 years now and have focused on the high performance end of the market. The UART’s we offer are the highest performance UART’s available.
    
    Recently we have worked to migrate some of our older products onto leading edge CMOS technologies to continue to offer high performance at low cost.
    
    We have also taken this opportunity to conform to new standards such as mini-PCI and 3.3 volt operation.

    Here you can see an application of the CB950 to provide a Bluetooth solution

    The Oxford CF950 was specifically designed to be as small as possible so that it would fit into a Compact Flash port to offer Bluetooth and/or GPRS capability

    Here you can see some typical add-in card applications, ranging from simple cards for additional serial and parallel ports to industrial control

    The CB950, CF950 and the C950 have been extensively designed into Bluetooth and GPRS products.

    The PCI954 and the C954 have been extensively used in industrial control, gaming machines and point-of-sales terminals

    In summary, then – Oxford concentrates on connectivity products that offer 1394, USB2.0, PCI, UART, CardBus and Compact Flash solutions.
    
    The services Oxford offers include, the silicon ie leading edge process technology, firmware/software that drives our products.
    
    We offer Evaluation boards to allow our customers to evaluate our technology at minimal cost.
    
    Oxford provides Applications that in turn allow our customers to quickly adapt these applications to offer products of their own.
    
    Oxford provides reference schematics and bill of materials again to maximise the time to market for our customers.
